A NEW FAVOURITE

Hail Mary
Heart, humour and a genuinely likeable friendship. The kind of film that reminds you why you love going to the cinema.

BELOW AVERAGE
Toxic Commando
Not enough variety, weak characters and little to move the genre forward. Back 4 Blood remains the better choice for Mark.

BACK IN THE GROOVE
Dexter:
Resurrection
A welcome return for a long-time Dexter fan. A reason to get invested again, with plenty riding on where the story goes next.

NOSTALGIA CAN’T SAVE IT
Masters of
the Universe
Some good casting and an enjoyable Skeletor. But uneven pacing and the Earth storyline leave a childhood favourite feeling diminished.

BETTER. STILL MIXED.
Mortal Kombat II
Karl Urban, more fatalities and a proper tournament help. Thin character depth and uneven pacing keep this one in rental territory.

ENJOYING THE FIGHT
Battlefield 6
Enjoyable, with room for criticism. Having a good time with a game doesn’t mean pretending it’s the best the series has ever been.

THE PERSON BEHIND THE VERDICT
A fan first.
A critic when
it counts.
I’m Mark. I grew up with He-Man, Mortal Kombat and Predator. I love these worlds. That’s exactly why I expect more from them.
Based and Geeked is for people who care about films, television and games: the stories, the characters, and the craft behind them. Expect serious analysis, a little sarcasm, and an opinion that belongs to the person giving it.
Earn the verdict.
A familiar name and a big budget don’t excuse weak writing or poor gameplay. And a good film deserves credit, whoever made it.
Keep the story intact.
Spoiler-free impressions when you need them. Deeper discussion when you’re ready. Spoilers should come with a warning.
Disagree. Stay geeked.
You can love something I don’t. Different opinions belong here. Make your case, share your favourites, and keep the conversation going.
